Thereza Stabel - an artistic legacy of grace, curiosity, and love

"Those we have loved deeply live within us, not only as memories but as true presences." Julia Stabel

Born in 1936 in Porto Alegre, Brazil, Thereza Stabel was more than an artist—she was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a deeply inspiring figure whose passion for creativity left an enduring mark. From an early age, her love for art blossomed, leading her to explore a variety of techniques and themes, with flowers becoming her most beloved and recurring subject.

Thereza’s artistic journey was defined by resilience and dedication. Although she began painting in her early years, it wasn’t until two decades into her practice that she held her first exhibition. Her works, celebrated for their technical mastery and poetic depth, graced galleries across Brazil and internationally in the United States, France, Italy, and even China.

Her signature style blended Western techniques with Japanese and Chinese influences, particularly in her watercolor paintings of flowers, which critics praised for their fluidity and precision.

Beyond her art, Thereza was a passionate teacher who generously shared her skills and inspired countless others to explore their creative potential. Her studio was a sanctuary of curiosity and love, embodying the values she held dear throughout her life.

Even after her passing in October 2023, Thereza’s legacy continues to bloom. Her husband, Jose Carlos, lovingly distributed 80 of her paintings to family and friends around the world, ensuring that her spirit remains present in the lives she touched. Through these works and the memories they hold, the world is reminded of her grace, passion, and unyielding connection to beauty.

Thereza Stabel's studio on Melo Alves Street, in São Paulo's Jardins district, was housed in a charming 1950s building. Its timeless elegance stood in contrast to the modern high-rises around it, reflecting her ability to blend tradition and creativity seamlessly.
